As the Scriptures say…(20)
Divine Judgment
Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind” (John 9:39)
Why does Jesus come into the world? One of the reasons has to do with divine judgment. What does Jesus judge in the world? Or how does Jesus judge us at all?
Jesus said
- Jesus is speaking to a man born blind
- He introduces himself as the Son of Man (John 9:35,38)
- All of these happen in the context of people who do not believe Jesus as the Messiah of God (John 9:8, 13, 18)
For judgment I came into this world
- This is what Jesus utters
- His coming into this world is to execute divine judgment
- Divine judgment Jesus brings about has everything to do with sight
That those who do not see may see
- Jesus has come into the world, bringing about sight to the blind
- This is the spiritual sight
- This gift of sight is for those of us who are spiritually blind
- This spiritual sight is well received only when we acknowledge our spiritual blindness
- How important it is for us to come to our senses that we are actually spiritually blind
And those who see may become blind
- Jesus has come into the world, affirming the spiritual blindness of those who think they are spiritually fine
- This spiritual blindness stems from one’s lack of faith in the Messiah of God
- How crucial it is for us to check ourselves against the Word and get corrected accordingly (James 1:22-25)
REFLECTIONS
- The man born blind is a portrayal of true sight gained
- Divine judgment occurs as people respond to the Messiah of God
- How important for us to respond to Jesus well and worthily!
